Opposition meeting in Maarab calls for implementation of UN resolutions to safeguard Lebanese sovereignty
MAARAB, Lebanon — In a significant gathering convened at the invitation of the Lebanese Forces Party in Maarab, current and former representatives, ministers, opposition parties, and independent figures joined together to demand the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the implementation of international resolutions.
During the event, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) and Secretary-General of the Christian Front Ibrahim Mrad emphasized the urgent need to uphold the United Nations resolutions pertaining to Lebanon. Specifically, Mrad called for the enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1559, which mandates the disarmament of Iranian-backed Hezbollah and an end to Iranian occupation.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation in Lebanon, Mrad underscored the imperative of safeguarding the country’s sovereignty from the influence of Iran through its proxies. He condemned the illegal usurpation of Lebanon’s sovereignty by Hezbollah, stressing that Lebanon must not remain under occupation.
Expressing optimism, Mrad expressed hope for the formation of a unified parliamentary delegation comprising representatives from diverse factions and sects. Such a delegation, he noted, would advocate to the international community for the full implementation of resolutions crucial to Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.
