Beth Nahrin Club in Vienna commemorates Sayfo Genocide with solemn event
VIENNA — to mark the anniversary of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire against the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, the Beth Nahrin Club of Vienna organized a solemn remembrance on Saturday.
According to Suroyo TV’s correspondent in Austria, the Beth Nahrin Club adorned an olive tree with black ribbons to symbolize the community’s mourning. The tree was surrounded by candles representing the lives lost in the massacres.
The event commenced at 7 pm in the hall of Saint Ephrem Church, drawing members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) in Vienna and dignitaries from the councils of Saint Ephrem Church, Virgin Mary Church, and Saint Poutrus and Saint Paulous Church.
A moment of silence was observed at the outset of the event, paying homage to the souls of those killed in the Sayfo Genocide. President of the Beth Nahrain Club, Adnan Haidari, underscored the significance of commemorating the tragic events.
Priests Afram and Thomas, accompanied by deacons, led a solemn prayer for the repose of the souls lost in the Sayfo, accompanied by poignant church hymns.
Aslan Argan, representing the Assyrian Democratic Organization (AD), delivered a heartfelt speech honoring the memories of the massacre victims, while club official Juliana Heydari addressed the audience in German, educating the youth about the historical significance of the events surrounding the massacres.
