Syriac organizations host festive Easter activities for children in Midyat, Turkey

MIDAYT, Turkey — In anticipation of the Easter holiday, the Surqadim Foundation, in collaboration with the Federation of Syriac Associations (Süryani Dernekler Federasyonu, SÜDEF), organized an event for children in Midyat, Turkey, in the historic region of Tur Abdin.

Scores of children from Midyat and villages around Tur Abdin came together to create sweet treats and beautifully colored eggs in preparation for the festivities.

Hosted at the SÜDEF headquarters in Midyat, the activity was supervised by a dedicated group of women who guided the children in crafting candies and dyeing eggs.

Surqadim, known for organizing a variety of activities for children in Tur Abdin, including Mar Zoukha and Hano Qrithu, facilitated this engaging event to foster a sense of community and celebration among the younger generation.

The children eagerly anticipate indulging in their handmade sweets and partaking in the tradition of egg breaking next Sunday morning, as they joyously celebrate the Easter holiday according to the Eastern calendar.
