USUP President Ibrahim Mrad urges full implementation of UN Resolution 1559 and disarming of Hezbollah in Lebanon
BEIRUT — Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon and Secretary-General of the Christian Front in Lebanon, reiterated his call for the complete implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1559 and the disarmament of Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, alongside ending the Iranian occupation in the country.
Mrad made these remarks on the sidelines of his participation in the Opposition National Meeting held at the invitation of the Lebanese Forces Party in Maarab. The meeting aimed to unify voices in demanding the implementation of international resolutions to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty.
In an interview with Lebanese media outlets, Mrad stated that all meeting attendees are committed to implementing international resolutions concerning Lebanon, including Resolution No. 1559, which addresses the disarmament of Hezbollah and Palestinian factions, as well as the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Mrad emphasized that the meeting participants will exert pressure on the international community to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, asserting, “It is no longer acceptable to remain under the burden of Iranian occupation.”
Furthermore, Mrad expressed hope to establish a joint parliamentary delegation comprising representatives from all parties and denominations to urge the international community to implement resolutions pertaining to Lebanon.
