Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties in Iraq convene to strengthen national cooperation
NINEVEH, Iraq — Representatives from the five major national parties of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq convened at the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) headquarters as part of ongoing efforts to enhance collective action and cooperation.
In attendance were members from the Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA), the Assyrian Patriotic Party, Abnaa al-Nahrain, the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa), and the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian Popular Council. Together, they delved into various topics critical to the community’s interests and future.
Discussions centered on the current state of national collaboration and strategies to bolster it, considering the challenges confronting the Assyrian people. They also addressed key political developments and articulated their collective stance on addressing them effectively.
Among the issues examined was the concerning trend of land exploitation in Ankawa, with attendees unanimously advocating for measures to halt any demographic shifts that infringe upon the rights of minorities, in line with existing laws safeguarding their interests within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
Furthermore, the participants addressed the implications of the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to annul component quota seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. They exchanged views on navigating these developments, emphasizing the importance of reinstating the component quota seats to ensure fair representation for their community in future elections.
