Syriac Catholic Patriarch Younan and Assyrian Church of the East Patriarch Mar Awa III Royel emphasize unity and heritage preservation in Beirut meeting
BEIRUT — Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan warmly welcomed Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel, along with his delegation, during an official visit to the Patriarchal See in Beirut.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Patriarch Royel commended Patriarch Younan’s role in safeguarding the Christian presence in the East, underscoring the robust ties between their Churches. Both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration to preserve Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) heritage and foster unity among their people and Churches.
Discussions delved into the current state of the Middle East, particularly the challenges facing the Christian community and efforts to secure their place in the region despite adversities. They also addressed the plight of their people amid ongoing crises, including the emigration of the youth.
As a symbol of mutual respect and affection, the Patriarchs exchanged gifts at the conclusion of the visit, reinforcing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between their respective denominations.
