Beth Nahrin National Council extends Easter congratulations
BETH NAHRIN — The Beth Nahrin National Council issued a statement on Feast of Resurrection.
“Christians around the world that follow the Julian calendar will celebrate Easter on 5 May to remember sacrifice of Christ. Christians in Russia, the Caucasus and the Middle East hold Orthodox feasts rituals, including the Syriac Church of Antioch that follows the Orthodox doctrine, during which the manifestations of Syriac identity emerged,” read the MUB statement.
The statement added that during 2000 years, the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people have used the philosophy of resurrection to be able to defend themselves against colonialists at various stages, including the Roman and Persian Wars, then the Umayyad, Abbasid and Ottoman Arab kingdoms, and within the last hundred years and the genocidal policies against our people that left a gross impact on their geography, homeland and even on their religious holidays.
Cultural genocide was also practiced against our people. In that era, they could not preserve their sanctities and heritage, and the aggressor forces made them lose their national identity. The international silence led to bloody genocides and more persecution.
The MUB declared that Syriac people derive morale from the countries that recognize the 1915 Sayfo Genocide, including recently the French parliament recognition, which also gives our people more motivation and will to continue demanding the Turkish regime to recognize the Sayfo.
“We extend Easter congratulations to Christian people around the world that follow the Julian calendar, as well as clergy and families of the martyrs. We also call on our people to participate in the national struggle to preserve our historical heritage and homeland,” the MUB concluded.
