NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) welcomed delegations from the United States and Europe.
The visiting delegation comprised Tasha Solomon — US State Department’s Office of Terrorist Detention Centers, Gers Gerlag — Special Envoy to Syria from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Victoria Fuller — Director General of the Office of Consular Operations in the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jossi Tanner — Director General of Consular Affairs in the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by their respective entourages.
Jointly greeted by Faner al-Kaait and Khaled Ibrahim of the Foreign Relations Commission, along with Lana Hussein, representative of the Women’s Protection Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Jin, YPJ), discussions revolved around the current situation in North and East Syria and addressing issues such as the threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS), the conditions in Al-Hol and Roj camps, and the ongoing Turkish attacks on civilian and military infrastructure alike.
Al-Kaait emphasized DAARNES’s collaborative stance with all nations in repatriating their citizens, urging global attention to the matter.
Expressing gratitude, the delegation conveyed their governments’ appreciation for DAARNES’s efforts in fulfilling its duties, facilitating legal procedures, camp management, and repatriation initiatives. They underlined the camps’ significance as a collective security concern for nations whose citizens are present, advocating for cohesive action in partnership with DAARNES to counter this shared threat.
Concluding the meeting, the Foreign Relations Commission formally transferred several American, Dutch, Canadian, and Finnish children and women to the delegation, formalized through an official handover document between the parties involved.
