IRAQ: Syriac folk band Kethoro visits Mor Behnam and Sarah Monastery in Baghdede

BAGHDEDE, Iraq — Following its performance at the University of Mosul’s 57th anniversary celebration, Syriac folk band Kethoro visited Mor Behnam and Sarah Monastery in the Nineveh Plains town of Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniyah), Iraq.

Upon arrival, the band members were warmly welcomed by Abbot Mazen Matoka, who provided them with insights into the religious and historical significance of the monastery.

Abbot Matoka also discussed the significance of the symbols adorning the monastery’s walls, noting that they had been defaced during the period of Islamic State (ISIS) control over the region.

Additionally, he shared the story of Mor Behnam and his sister Sarah, who lived during the 4th century A.D.

The excursion featured entertainment programs, competitions, and educational lectures held within the monastery grounds.
