Tel Tamr Council comments on burning of agricultural land by Turkish-backed forces in North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, North and East Syria — Following the burning of agricultural lands outside the Khabur River Valley town of Tel Tamr, North and East Syria, Mohammed Saeed Sheikhmus, Co-Chair of Tel Tamr Council, accused Turkish forces of setting fire to the land intentionally. He stated that the fire originated from areas controlled by Turkish forces along the contact line in the countryside of Tel Tamr.

Reportedly, 90 dunums of barley were scorched in Al-Masalta village, located north of Tel Tamr.

Sheikhmus asserted that the Turkish forces and their Syrian National Army (SNA) proxies intentionally set fire to land in the villages they occupy. He added that local residents and emergency teams, formed by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), promptly responded to extinguish the fire before it could spread further.

The agricultural sector in North and East Syria remains under threat due to recurrent Turkish attacks, primarily aimed at jeopardizing the livelihoods of the local populace. These actions have adverse effects on the region’s overall economic stability.
