Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties meet with president of Iraqi Federal Supreme Court in Baghdad to discuss quota seats
BAGHDAD — In ongoing efforts to restore quota seats for the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, representatives from five Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties met with President of the Federal Supreme Court Jassem Muhammad Abboud in Baghdad.
The delegation included General Secretary of the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) Yacoub Korkis, Chairman of the Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) Yousef Yacoub, Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian Popular Council Ninos Siawish, Head of the Baghdad Branch of the Assyrian Patriotic Party Faryal Elisha, member of the Political Bureau Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party Girgis Younan, and Head of the Baghdad Branch of Zowaa Ayelet Korkis.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed gratitude to the Federal Supreme Court for suspending the procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission. They emphasized the importance of adhering to the constitution, which guarantees their right to representation in all authorities. The delegation called for the reinstatement of these quota seats through legislation, ensuring the will of their people is protected and represented in the legislative authority without interference from ruling parties.
President Abboud acknowledged the suffering of national minorities due to the interference of powerful parties in quota elections. He affirmed the Federal Supreme Court’s commitment to defending the people from such exploitation and ensuring fair representation.
