International ambassadors urge Lebanon to end presidential vacuum and restore stability

BEIRUT — Following a series of meetings with Lebanese political blocs, the ambassadors of Egypt, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United States issued a joint statement addressing the ongoing presidential vacuum in Lebanon, which has persisted for over 18 months. The statement underscores the critical situation affecting the Lebanese people and its detrimental impact on the country’s economy and stability.

The ambassadors highlighted the urgent need for Lebanon to elect a president who can unify the nation, prioritize the welfare of its citizens, and form a broad coalition to restore political stability and implement essential economic reforms.

Emphasizing the necessity of having a president for Lebanon to maintain its presence at the regional discussion table, the statement noted that the discussions among the five ambassadors revealed a consensus among political blocs on the importance of electing a new president. The statement called for ongoing consultations among these blocs to resolve the current political impasse.

The ambassadors urged Lebanese representatives to engage in consultations and fulfill their constitutional duty to elect a President of the Republic. They reaffirmed their commitment to respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and constitution, and to assisting Lebanon in overcoming its crises and restoring political and economic stability.
