European Syriac Union recalls martyrdom of Matay Rabo Iskender Alptekin

BRUSSELS —The Co-Chairs of the European Syriac Union (ESU) Fehmi Vergili and Manuela Demir stated that the ESU commemorated comrade of struggle, martyr Matay Rabo Iskender Alptekin, a founding member and former President of ESU who tragically lost his life on 18 May, 2010 at the age of 49, due to a heart attack in Switzerland.

Since the ESU founding, comrade Matay Rabo martyrdom has tirelessly made great efforts in the field of national struggle, through his visits to world countries, to introduce the struggle for freedom of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and demand their rights.

The ESU added that comrade Matay Rabo, in addition to his unique and beloved personality, had works in Syriac music and heritage.

“Comrade Matay Rabo Iskander Alptekin will not be forgotten, because he gave his life to achieve the freedom of his people and homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia),” the ESU Co-Chairs concluded.
