Bethnahrin National Council congratulates European Syriac Union on 20th anniversary

BETH NAHRIN — The Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) extended its congratulations to the European Syriac Union (ESU) on its 20th anniversary through a telegram read during the celebration at the Saint Yohannon Dakfuna Church in Delmenhorst, Germany.

In its message, the MUB highlighted the establishment of the ESU in 2004 during a conference in Brussels. The MUB praised the achievements made through the ESU’s efforts in Europe, which have paved the way for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people to reconnect with their homeland. They noted that the ESU’s work has accelerated the formation of numerous national and social organizations and institutions.

The telegram recounted the deliberations that led to the formation of a unified national front in Europe, culminating in the official establishment of the European Syriac Union. The ESU developed comprehensive political, diplomatic, heritage, and social plans, successfully raising awareness of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) identity and making their voice heard internationally.

The MUB emphasized the significant outcomes of the ESU’s initiatives, particularly in the continued efforts to gain international recognition for the 1915 Sayfo Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire. These actions have led to the establishment of advocacy groups and representation of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in various parliaments.

On this milestone anniversary, the MUB paid tribute to the martyrdom of the ESU’s founding president, Mattai Rabo Iskander Alptekin. They congratulated their comrades and the broader Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community for their sacrifices and efforts in support of the ESU, wishing continued success to the Union’s joint presidency, management, and members.
