Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel meets with Syriac scholars
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, Mar Awa III Royel, received Dr. Ramazan Turgut, a PhD holder from the Department of Syriac Language and Literature at Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey. Dr. Turgut was accompanied by a delegation of Syriac intellectuals from Mardin.
The discussion focused on the state of Syriac studies in both the Middle East and in the diaspora, focusing specifically on Iraq and Turkey. They also touched on the Patriarchal Cathedral of Mar Shalita in the Hakkari region of Turkey and the possibility of arranging an official visit by the Catholicos-Patriarch.
Other academic matters of importance to the Assyrian Church of the East in the region were also discussed.
