Iraq restores 3 artifacts from Switzerland
BAGHDAD — As part of efforts of Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recover smuggled artifacts, Iraq has received 3 artifacts from the Swiss Minister of Internal Affairs.
According to the Ministry statement, Iraqi Minister Fuad Hussein received from Switzerland 3 Iraqi artifacts described in the statement as “very valuable,” dating back to the ancient Syriac-Assyrian civilization.
Hussein thanked the Swiss government for the cooperation it has shown in order to restore the Iraqi cultural heritage, pointing out that Iraqi Ministry is seeking to further restore artifacts to Iraq.
The artifacts are a statue of the Syriac-Assyrian Sun God, and 2 murals dating back to the Syriac-Assyrian era B.C., the statement reported.
The handover operation came after the Iraqi Ministry received thousands of artifacts from several countries dating back to the Mesopotamian civilization.
