Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Odeh: Saving Lebanon begins with electing a president
BEIRUT — During his sermon at St. George Cathedral in Beirut, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Beirut and its Environs Elias Odeh stated that war, assassinations, weapons smuggling, security evasions, expected hot summer, crimes, drugs, emptying institutions, disruption of presidential elections, exchange of accusations and other plagues are heavy burden on the Lebanese people.
Odeh declared that Lebanon is “deposed” because it is suffering from political, social, economic, moral and security issues, noting that the greedy ambitions of officials, rulers and leaders, as well as the greedy ambitions of external forces, weakened Lebanon’s immunity.
Odeh considered that poor management and discretion, the preference of foreign interests over the internal interest, non-compliance with the Constitution and the failure to elect a president who holds the reins of affairs have increased the fragility of the situation.
He called on the Lebanese people to transcend interests and hatreds and converge on the need to save their country, starting with electing a president and forming a government that carries out the necessary reforms and strictly apply the laws without exceptions.
Odeh expressed deep regret over the campaign that faced the security measures taken by the Ministry of Interior to suppress violations and reduce the chaos invading the streets.
Odeh called on everyone to support the state in its reform and accountability, as well as help it impose its dignity, apply laws and protect borders.
