Syriac Women’s Union Official Georgette Barsomo: The 5th Conference of Syriac Women’s Union drew up a new strategy
ZALIN, Syria — On the sidelines of the 5th Conference of the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria, which was held in Zalin (Qamishli), the newly-elected SWU head Georgette Barsomo stated to our news desk that the conference drew up a new strategy for the SWU, which will be a future action plan to develop relations with women’s organizations in Syria and abroad, in order to empower women.
Barsomo pointed out that the final statement of the 5th SWU conference stressed the organizational work and women role to obtain their rights.
She stressed that the Syriac women reached their 5th Conference due to continued struggle, sacrifice and blood by the Syriac women martyrs.
Sabah Shabo, member of the SWU Council in Syria and member of the preparatory committee of the conference stated to our news desk that the committee worked for 2 months and received all nominations from the SWU branches in North and East Syria.
Shabo noted to electing a new SWU General Council that consists of 74 women members.
Shabo stressed that the SWU members will work together with the new SWU head, according to the conference outputs about activating Syriac women role and empowerment, under the new Social Contract.
