Co-Chair of Democratic Union Party Saleh Muslim: U.S. statement on Municipal Elections in North and East Syria avoids provoking Turkey
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Following the hostile Turkish statements towards the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), Co-Chair of the Democratic Union Party (Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat, PYD) Saleh Muslim confirmed that the U.S. statement on the DAARNES Municipal Elections is only a diplomatic statement that avoids provoking Turkey.
“The DAARNES Municipal Elections will be held under appropriate conditions, without support or consultation with anyone,” Muslim declared. s
In an interview with the Firat News Agency, Muslim stated that the Turkish regime will do everything in its power to prevent holding the elections, pointing out to the Turkish regime officials’ anger.
He stressed that the DAARNES will inevitably hold these elections, and peoples of the region will go to the polls to elect their representatives of their own free will.
Muslim added that the Turkish regime was against these elections from the beginning, because it is against the will of the peoples and democracy.
“Whenever these peoples take a step towards democracy, the Turkish regime opposes it,” he continued.
The DAARNES had approved holding the Municipal Elections after approving the new Social Contract.
