Syriac politicians participate in European Parliament elections
EUROPE — The European Parliament elections will take place 6 – 9 June, 2024, amid the participation of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) candidates from Sweden and The Netherlands.
The Syriac candidate Susanne Takak is from The Netherlands. The 4 other candidates from Sweden are MP Ilan de Basso from Social Democratic Party in Jönköping, 18-year-old Samuel Ablahad from Social Democratic Party in Eskilstuna, and Yusuf Aydin from Swedish Christian Democratic Party in Botkyrka, as well as Syriac Maronite Roger Haddad from the Liberal Party in Västerås.
Basso is active in Syriac people’s institutions. Aydin, who is active in Syriac people’s institutions, is a member of the Swedish parliament for the Christian Democratic Party.
