U.S. Embassy attack encourages implementation of UN resolution No. 1559, Chapter VII
BEIRUT — A gunman, a Syrian national, fired shots at the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon and was wounded in an exchange of fire with troops, the Lebanese Army reported.
The facility and staff were safe. U.S. Ambassador Lisa Johnson is currently travelling outside Lebanon, according to diplomatic sources.
President of Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad condemned the Embassy attack.
“We believe that there is a link between the recent attack and the prisoners exchange deal that is taking place under U.S. auspices without any Iranian role,” Mrad stated.
He declared that the attack encourages the U.S. to help the Lebanese people to get rid of Iranian control represented by Hezbollah and Palestinian organizations, as well as ISIS groups closely linked to Iran, through the implementation of UN resolution No. 1559, Chapter VII.
Mrad called for helping the Lebanese Army to deploy on Lebanese borders, supported with UN forces to establish peace in Lebanon, otherwise Lebanon will be subjected to more attacks and become an arena for chaos.
