Bethnahrin National Council condemns Turkey’s policy that does not recognize peoples will
BETH NAHRIN — The Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) condemned the fascist Turkish government’s policy of closing democratic parties, putting their representatives in prisons and besieging the will of the peoples, referring to the removal and sentence of Co-Mayor of Hakkari.
“During the local elections held in Turkey on 31 March, the candidate of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Mehmet Sıddık Akış was elected as Co-Mayor of Hakkari with the peoples votes. However, he was removed, sentenced and replaced with a trustee, Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party,” read the MUB statement.
Since 2016, the illegal guardianship system has been applied against mayors and council members elected by the peoples loyal to the DEM party.
“The illegal guardianship against many economic and political figures and institutions is a fascist and anti-democratic act. Despite unrecognition of the people’s right to autonomy, people’s social and cultural life is being destroyed by conspiracies,” the MUB declared.
The statement added that the Turkification attempts of the AKP government and the Nationalist Movement Party through a racist Turkish-Islamic policy are a continuation of the traditions of the Turkish state. All kinds of violent methods are used to merge peoples who have different points of view and ethnic identities.
“Describing the Syriacs, Kurds, Armenians, Lazi, Circassians, Arabs and other people as illegal, separatists and enemies in Turkey, reveals that the rulers have a denialist ideology. Since its foundation, Turkey has seen that the languages, cultures, identities and wills of the people pose a threat to its existence. It adopted a policy of annihilation and genocide. All governments have tried to destroy the civilizations of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and Anatolia by committing crimes against humanity and against the people,” the MUB continued.
The MUB stated that it is importance that the entire society protects its own values against guardianship policies aimed at plundering the efforts and will of the peoples.
” We must put an end to this darkness with the support of world public opinion by raising the pace of struggle to consolidate democratic values and the modern system together against this reactionary mentality aimed at destroying peoples a century ago,” read the statement.
The MUB condemned the policy of the AKP government and the Nationalist Movement Party which closes democratic parties and confiscates peoples will.
“The MUB saluted the resistance of Hakkari people and all those who are fighting for freedom,” the statement concluded.
