Swedish report highlights importance of international recognition of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide

SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — In an interview with a Swedish newspaper, head of the Local Council of Mor Yacoub d’Nisibin Church in Södertälje, Sweden, Besim Aho, spoke about the 109th anniversary of the Sayfo Genocide.

Aho stated that the annihilation began before June 1915.

“One and a half million people were killed in Turkey in a brutal and bloody way, including half a million Syriacs (Arameans-Chaldeans-Assyrians), not to mention the conversion into Islam and displacement,” Aho added.

He talked about the Sayfo repercussions, including uprooting of culture, language, identity of peoples.

Aho touched upon the Sayfo international recognition and its importance for the morale of Syriac people.

He also highlighted the historical and religious necessity of the Sayfo international recognition.
