Kurdistan Region of Iraq promotes Syriac language use in official documents
ANKAWA, Iraq — In a step to promote the use of the Syriac language, the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) has begun using Syriac in its official documents with government departments and institutions in Ankawa District, as well as with other government institutions concerned with the Syriac language throughout the KRI.
This initiative aims to enhance and consolidate the use of the Syriac language, as mandated by the 2015 law on the protection of ethnic components’ rights in the KRI. The law seeks to protect and guarantee the political, civil, and cultural rights of ethnic components in the region.
