Catholic Church in Turkey consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ
IZMIR, Turkey — In the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio to Turkey Monsignor Marek Solczynski, the Catholic Church in Izmir, Turkey was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ on 7 June.
Solczynski presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. John in Izmir, with archbishops of the 4 Catholic denominations of Turkey, along with Father James Paxton of the Anglican Church.
The Advisor of Izmir Archbishops Father Alessandro Ambrino initiated the consecration of the church. Ambrino will represent the Turkish Catholic Church at the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress scheduled to be held in Ecuador.
This extraordinary event is of utmost importance for the Catholic Church in Turkey, because it is considered an act of faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a symbol of Christ’s death.
