Caritas team wins 3rd Pope Francis Football Tournament in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Under the patronage of Chaldean Patriarch Mar Louis Raphael Sako, and in the presence of Patriarch Assistant Archbishop Basilius Yaldo, the 3rd Pope Francis Football Tournament was held at the stadium of the Mor Gorgis Chaldean Church in Baghdad.
The tournament was organized by the Catholic Youth Committee under the supervision of Father Lovin Hanna, featuring 16 teams representing Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians, Melkite Greek Catholics, Latins, Armenians, Copts, and Caritas.
The final was attended by four priests from Baghdad churches, sports figures, and a gathering of fans from the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.
The match for first and second place was between the team of the Chaldean Cathedral of Mar Youssef and Caritas. The Caritas team won with a score of 2-1.
The Mar Youssef Chaldean team reached the final for the second time, having won the first edition of the tournament.
At the end of the tournament, prizes were distributed to the winners, and sports staff and referees were honored.
