Administration of North and East Syria hosts World Drug Day event in Raqqa, highlights efforts to combat drug trafficking

RAQQA, Syria — On World Drug Day, the Internal Affairs Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) held an event at the Authority’s headquarters in Raqqa.

The event was attended by a DAARNES delegation represented by Co-Chairs of the Executive Council Hussein Othman and Avin Sweid, the General Command of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), as well as civil and military institutions.

The event featured speeches from Co-Chair of the Executive Council Hussein Othman and Judge Muslim Mohammed from the Social Justice Council, both of whom reaffirmed DAARNES’ efforts to limit the spread of drug trafficking and hold promoters accountable.

In comments to our news desk, Hassan Kano from the General Directorate of Drug Control spoke about the negative effects of drug abuse and trafficking, sharing statistics on their efforts in controlling drug-related activities. With the domestic and international drug trade growing as a result of over a decade of civil war, Kano stressed the importance of the Directorate’s work.

At the end of the event, the Interior Ministry and the ISF General Command honored the Drug Control Apparatus and burned a quantity of seized drugs.
