Iraqi Ministry announces return of 569 Yezidis to their homes in Shigur (Sinjar / Şengal)
SHIGUR, Iraq — In cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Nineveh Operations Command, and with the provision of necessary logistical support, the Iraqi Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced that 569 Yezidi citizens, who had been living outside the camps in the Sharya complex and its affiliated villages in Nohadra (Duhok) Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), have returned to their homes in Shigur (Şengal / Sinjar) in Nineveh Plains.
Thousands of Yezidis were displaced from their homes in 2014 after the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization attacked Shigur, committing genocide that led to the killing of over 5,000 Yezidis and the kidnapping of thousands of women and girls.
