Turkish forces bomb Assyrian village in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, forcing residents to flee
DARKILA MISHKA, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — The Turkish military launched a violent bombardment on the village of the Assyrian village of Darkila Mishka in Nohadra (Duhok), Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The Turkish bombardment damaged parts of the village and its church.
Shells and missiles from the Turkish forces landed on lands adjacent to the village, which are owned by local shepherds and farmers. Fires ignited by the bombing continue to burn.
In addition to Darkila Mishka, Turkish forces also targeted the villages of Dergla and Baza.
The residents of Nohadra’s villages are being forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing clashes between Turkish forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrilla forces. The Turkish military has intensified its operations against the PKK in the region, while Kurdish fighters continue to launch strong counterattacks.
