Seven Christian villages in Berwari Bala in Nohadra, Iraq evacuated due to Turkish operations

NOHADRA, Iraq —The Turkish operations in northern Iraq caused the evacuation of 7 Christian villages of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in the Berwari Bala region, in addition to massive material loss and damage to the people of the border areas, Rudaw Media Network reported.

Michael, the mayor of the Mişka village stated that in addition to their village, 6 other villages, Malakhta, Kari, Sardashti, Halwa, Jammeh Destiny and Baluk, were evacuated due to fighting this week.

” Each of these Christian villages includes between 10 and 15 families, and each of them has moved to another place,” he added.

Michael declared that about 85% of Mişka village was burned, and they cannot stay there for a single hour, noting that their lives are in danger and some villages are still burned.

Michael pointed out that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had been present in their area before, but the Turkish Army had never bombed Christian villages in this way.

Only 11 Christian families remained in the Mişka, which is considered the oldest village in the Berwari Bala region.

The only 1 Muslim family who remained in Mişka was also displaced.

According to information obtained by Rudaw, there are 22 Christian villages in the Berwari Bala area alone. Some of these villages are a mixture of Muslims and Christians, while others are inhabited only by Christians.

According to statistics from the World Peace Organization (CPT), 602 villages were evacuated in Nohadra (Dohuk) alone. 20,000 acres of land were burned and border areas were bombed 238 times, due to Turkish military operations.
