Argentina designates Hamas as a terrorist organization

AEBUENOS AIRES — Argentina presidency designated the Palestinian Hamas Movement as a terrorist organization, amidst improving rapprochement between the Argentinian president Javier Melli and Israel.

This Argentine decision comes amid the continued war between Israel and the Hamas in the Gaza Strip following the Hamas attack on 7 October.

The presidential decision highlighted Hamas’s close ties with Iran, which Argentina holds responsible for 2 deadly attacks on Jewish targets in the country, notably the 1994 bombing of the Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and injured hundreds, marking the deadliest attack in modern Argentine history.

Another attack on the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 claimed over 20 lives.
