Assad sets conditions for meeting with Erdogan: End support for ‘terrorism’ and withdraw from Syrian territory
DAMASCUS — Head of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad confirmed, while casting his vote in the People’s Assembly elections, that there are specific conditions for his potential meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Assad emphasized that such a meeting must aim to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries.
Assad stated that any meeting must yield tangible results, highlighting the necessity of ending Turkey’s support for “terrorism” and its withdrawal from Syrian territory as fundamental conditions for restoring relations between Damascus and Ankara. He stressed that the problem lies not in the meeting itself but in the content and goals of such a dialogue.
Assad also mentioned that Turkey has not provided any guarantees, adding that Syria is proceeding positively based on international law and national sovereignty.
