Turkish Army shells Kurdistan Region of Iraq 381 times in June, reports CPT

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Kamiran Othman, a member of Community Peacemakers Teams in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), reported that the Turkish Army shelled the KRI 381 times in June.

According to the organization’s statistics, there were 339 airstrikes, 35 artillery bombardments, and 7 drone attacks. Most of these strikes targeted Nohadra (Duhok), Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Shigur (Shengal /Sinjar).

The Turkish strikes resulted in the injury of a civilian in Sidkan, the displacement of 184 families, the burning of 68,000 dunums of agricultural land and natural forests, and damage to 19 residential houses. Additionally, the church of the village of Miski was damaged, electricity was cut off from the villages of Berkari and Mişka, and there were disruptions to communication lines and the internet in more than a hundred villages in Nohadra.

The organization also noted that the Turkish Army shelled the KRI 1,076 times from the beginning of the year until the end of June.
