Iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani meets with Chaldean Patriarch Sako to discuss support for Christian community and national diversity
BAGHDAD — Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani met with Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako, along with several Chaldean bishops attending the annual Synod of the Chaldean Church in Baghdad.
At the outset of the meeting, al-Sudani expressed his strong support for the Synod of the Chaldean Church Council being held in Baghdad. He emphasized the importance of celebrating all Iraqi communities, particularly the Christian community, which has made significant cultural and humanitarian contributions to Iraq’s history.
Al-Sudani highlighted that Iraq’s diversity is a source of strength and stability. He commended the Iraqi Christian religious leaders for their resilience and presence during challenging times. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating the return of all Christians to Iraq, underscoring the necessity of maintaining institutional integrity and ensuring freedom of worship for all.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging Iraq’s substantial resources to guarantee stability and prosperity for the nation.
In response, Patriarch Sako and the attending bishops reaffirmed their support for the government’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and the provision of public services to secure a dignified life for all Iraqis.
