UN top court: Israel’s presence in Palestinian territories is unlawful

HAGUE, Netherlands — The hearing of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) stated that Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is unlawful.

The court called for settlement construction to stop immediately.

Nawaf Salam, president of the ICJ in The Hague declared that Israeli settlement policies fueled violence against Palestinians, noting that Israel accelerated the establishment of new settlements in the West Bank, which amounted to more than 24,000 settlement units.

Salam added that Israel’s actions violate the law that prevents the transfer of residents in the occupied territories, indicating that Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land and granting it to settlers is not temporary, and violates the Geneva Convention.

In response to the court’s decision, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Jewish people cannot be considered an occupier of their historical homeland, adding that any wrong decision in The Hague will not distort this historical fact, as well as the legality of Israeli settlements in all the territories of their homeland cannot be challenged.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Ghafir stated that the decision of the International Court of justice in The Hague proves that this is a clearly anti-Semitic political organization.
