North and East Syria releases first batch of prisoners under new amnesty law

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In line with the amnesty decision issued by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), the Social Justice Authority has released the first batch of prisoners from Ghweran Prison in Hasakah. This marks the beginning of a series of releases under the new amnesty law.

The Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Mahmoud al-Musalat, attended the release procedures, expressing hopes that the released individuals will successfully reintegrate into society.

The amnesty plan entails releasing prisoners in batches after the necessary procedures are completed by the Social Justice Authority and the Prison Administration. North Press Agency reported that the prison administration will release 180 prisoners initially, with a total of approximately 1,500 detainees in DAARNES prisons included in the amnesty set to be freed throughout the week.

Dozens of people, including notables and regional sheikhs, gathered in front of Ghweran Prison to welcome the released individuals, celebrating this significant step towards social justice and reintegration.
