Authorities in Kurdistan Region of Iraq block anti-Turkish occupation protest in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Authorities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) prevented a planned protest in Sulaymaniyah which aimed to denounce the illegal Turkish incursion into Iraqi territory. The protest was intended to announce the formation of the “United Front Against the Occupation” and was scheduled to include a press statement in Sulaymaniyah’s public park. However, security forces intervened to stop the demonstration.

Despite the initial blockade, participants attempted to regroup in front of the park gates but were again dispersed by security forces. Additionally, reporters from Roj News Agency who were present to cover the event had their equipment confiscated by regional authorities.

The Nohadra (Duhok) Governorate has been experiencing significant Turkish incursions, purportedly targeting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). These actions have sparked widespread criticism and calls for protest among the local population.
