Grenade attack in Södertälje, Sweden, injures woman, leads to multiple arrests
SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — On Monday at 20:00, the sounds of police cars, ambulances, and helicopters filled Södertälje, Sweden, as roads leading to the Geneta neighborhood, home to a large Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, were closed off.
Alongside police and rescue forces, national units specializing in dismantling explosives were present after a passerby threw a grenade into a food store owned by a Syriac individual.
The explosion injured a 50-year-old woman, whose condition has since stabilized, posing no risk to her life. Several others sustained minor injuries from shattered glass.
That same night, a young man aged between 15 and 18 was arrested on charges of attempted murder and vandalism of property and public facilities. The police announced that they had also arrested other suspects, who were subsequently released after questioning.
