Bethnahrin National Council delegation visits Swiss Catholic Diocese to discuss Middle Eastern Christian plight

CHUR, Switzerland — A delegation from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), including Relations Department official Ever Gabriel and European Syriac Union (ESU) official Lucas Sackur, visited the Catholic Diocese in the Swiss city of Chur. The delegation was warmly received by Catholic Bishop Yochen Folz.

During the meeting, the parties discussed significant local and regional developments. The delegation highlighted the plight of their people in the Middle East, detailing the difficulties they face and the ongoing threats due to wars and attacks in the region. They also discussed the challenges and progress of their communities in Europe and Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).

The delegation appealed for support from both the Church and the state, emphasizing the strong Christian ties that bind them, to help their people live peacefully in their ancestral lands. Bishop Folz underscored the importance of maintaining a Christian presence in the Middle East, acknowledging its vital role for the Church in the region.
