European Syriac Union calls on Syriac people to protest against Lausanne Agreement
LAUSANE, Switzerland — Thirty-six parties, organizations and institutions from peoples of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and Kurdistan held a protest in front of the building where the Lausanne agreement was drafted in Switzerland, on 24 July, 2023.
In comments to our news desk, Samir Özmen, the official of European Syriac Union (ESU) in Switzerland, spoke about the Lausanne Agreement, which was signed 101 years ago.
“Lausanne Agreement caused the denial and obliteration of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people, as well as their rights and will,” Özmen stated. “In denunciation of this agreement, Syriac and Kurdish parties, for the first time, agreed to protest in front of the building where this agreement was signed, in Lausanne, Switzerland, to express the peoples’ rejection of the terms and results of this agreement.”
Özmen called on Syriac people to participate in this protest on 27 July, 2024.
