Iraqi Women’s Conference concludes with several recommendations

BAGHDAD — Coinciding with 10th anniversary of Shigur (Şengal / Sinjar) genocide, the 3rd Iraqi Women’s Conference was launched in Baghdad.

It discussed the status of women in Iraq socially and politically, as well as the constitutional and legal obstacles they face.

Spokeswoman of Diplomatic Committee of Yezidi Women’s Freedom Movement, Siham Shengali, pointed out that the conference goal is to raise women awareness and highlight their status and Yezidi survivors in Shigur (Şengal / Sinjar), 10 years after the genocide.

Speeches were delivered about the status of women and the importance of activating their role in Iraqi society to advance society in all aspects of life and service.

The conference ended with a set of recommendations that included changing and developing the programs of political parties, joint work between women’s organizations, political parties and human rights organizations defending equality, focusing women’s organizations on increasing women’s awareness of the importance of effective participation in political life, supporting women candidates for members of Parliament financially, morally and in the media.

In addition to not separating the issue of women from society, and demanding adequate support from governments to create Research Centers for gender equality to achieve social balance.
