Syriac–Assyrian and Kurdish leaders meet in Zalin, North and East Syria, to strengthen ties and promote political unity in Syria

ZALIN, Syria — The Presidential Body in the Coordination and Consultation Committee of Syriac (Aramean–Assyria–Chaldean) parties in Syria met with a delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria.

The Committee delegation included Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsom, Member of the SUP Executive Body Afram Ishaq, Official of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) Gabriel Moshe, and Member of the Executive Body of the Assyrian Democratic Party Wael Mirza. The Kurdish National Council delegation was headed by its Co-Chair Suleiman Osso.

The two sides discussed common issues, seeking to strengthen relations between the ethnic components of North and East Syria in particular, and all of Syria in general. They also addressed the promotion of coexistence and efforts to confront attempts to create discord between national and religious communities.

Both parties emphasized the importance of restoring the decision-making power to the Syrian people and the need to activate dialogues among Syrians to reach a political solution in Syria. This solution should be in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254, guaranteeing the rights of all ethnic components and building a decentralized, democratic, and pluralistic Syria.

In comments to Suroyo TV, Barsom stated that the two sides discussed key issues affecting their communities, focusing on social and political relations and the unification of their visions and demands. He emphasized the numerous commonalities between the parties, highlighting the importance of such meetings to achieve positive outcomes on the ground.

Moshe stated that the Kurdish National Council in Syria called for a meeting with the Committee to enhance coordination and relations with the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people. The goal is to achieve common political objectives and work towards a political solution. Moshe noted that the Kurdish National Council expressed its support for the national rights of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Syria and discussed the shared points that unite the Kurdish and Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities.
