Women of Kobane, North and East Syria, protest Iranian execution of 27 people

KERMANSHAH, Iran / KOBANE, North and East Syria — In a continued crackdown on freedom of thought and opinion, the Iranian authorities have executed 27 prisoners in the cities of eastern Kurdistan since the beginning of July, according to reports published by the Iranian Human Rights Organization.

Human rights organizations report that Iran has executed over 290 people in various prisons across the country since the start of this year. Furthermore, since 2007, approximately 243 women have been executed.

In response to the recent death sentences of activists Sharifa Mohammadi and Bakhshan Azizi on dubious charges, dozens of women and members of women’s movements and organizations gathered in “Free Women’s Square” in the city of Kobane, North and East Syria. They condemned the Iranian regime’s actions and called for global solidarity in the fight against patriarchal oppression.

The demonstrators criticized the silence of human rights organizations regarding Iran’s oppressive actions and demanded an immediate abolition of the death sentences. They urged all freedom-loving people and women’s rights advocates worldwide to support the struggle against these inhumane practices.
