Turkish President Erdogan’s threats to Israel prompt calls for Turkey’s expulsion from NATO
TEL AVIV — Following a meeting of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to invade Israel in support of Palestinians. Erdogan asserted that, just as Turkish forces had entered Karabakh and Libya, they could do the same in Israel.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz called for Turkey’s exclusion from NATO. He urged Israeli diplomats to reach out to all NATO members to condemn Turkey and demand its removal from the alliance.
Similarly, Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch right-wing People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), rejected Erdogan’s threats and also demanded Turkey’s expulsion from NATO.
