Iran prepares for possible retaliatory strikes on Israel after assassination of Hamas leader in Tehran

TEHRAN — Following the assassination of Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, questions have emerged regarding Tehran’s potential response to Tel Aviv, which was immediately accused by Iranian authorities of orchestrating the killing.

News media reported that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered a direct attack on Israel during an emergency meeting of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council. Iranian officials present at the meeting revealed that Tehran is considering a coordinated missile and drone strike on Haifa and Tel Aviv. Khamenei has instructed the preparation of both offensive and defensive plans in anticipation of a potential escalation of conflict with Israel.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf warned Israel of severe repercussions, asserting that Israel would face unimaginable consequences for its actions.

Thousands attended Haniyeh’s funeral in Tehran on Thursday morning, while Hamas announced plans to bury him in Qatar.
