US pledges support for Israel amid rising tensions regional tensions following Israeli assassinations of Hezbollah and Hamas officials in Lebanon and Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Amid escalating tensions between Israel and the Iranian-led “Axis of resistance” following Israeli assassinations of Hezbollah and Hamas officials, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin pledged that the United States would defend Israel if attacked.
Austin emphasized that Washington would support Tel Aviv’s right to self-defense while also seeking a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions between the two sides.
Additionally, the US National Security Council reiterated its commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and Hezbollah. According to The Times of Israel, National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson condemned the Hezbollah missile attack on Majdal Shams, which killed several children at a football field, as horrific and affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against such threats.
