Erbil government appreciates Iraqi Prime Minister designation a day for Yezidi Genocide remembrance

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — With the approach of 10th anniversary of Yezidi Genocide in Shigur (Şengal / Sinjar) which was committed by the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2014, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, issued a decision to designate a day to honor the victims of the Yezidi Genocide and other peoples’ exterminations.

This decision was supported by the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.

The spokesman of the regional government Peshawa Hawramani announced the approval of the Iraqi federal government on this important initiative, stressing the importance of honoring and remembering the victims.

He declared that Al-Sudani decision stipulates suspension of government departments, public places, markets and streets, at 10:00 a.m. every year, as a minute of silence in honor of the victims.
