10,000 Iraqi citizens repatriated from Al-Hol Camp in North and East Syria, 22,000 remain
AL-HOL, North and East Syria — In ongoing coordination between the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and the Iraqi government to address the conditions of Iraqi citizens in Al-Hol camp, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons Ali Abbas announced that 10,000 Iraqi citizens have returned from Al-Hol, with about 22,000 Iraqis still residing there.
Abbas added that Iraqi families repatriated from Al-Hol are being transferred to Jadaa Camp in the village of Jadaa in Nineveh Governorate.
According to UN statistics, 45,000 people of various nationalities currently reside in Al-Hol camp.
DAARNES reopened the camp in 2016 to receive Iraqi refugees and displaced Syrians after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regained control of Al-Hol from the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2015.
