Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III meets British Ambassador to Iraq

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — In a move to strengthen cooperation, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel received British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen and his accompanying delegation.

The Patriarch and the ambassador discussed the history of the Assyrian Church of the East and its current geographical distribution. Hitchen expressed a keen interest in learning more about the history of the Church and the presence of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq.

The two sides also addressed the challenges facing Christians in the region and explored ways to help them maintain their presence in their homeland.
