Institutions of Bethnahrin National Council in Hasakah mark 11th anniversary of Syriac leader Saeed Malke’s arrest by Syrian regime

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — On the 11th anniversary of the arrest of Saeed Malke, the former leader of the Syriac Union Party, by the Syrian regime’s intelligence services, the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) marked the injustice with an event in Hasakah, North and East Syria. The event was attended by community members, institutions, and representatives from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and local political parties.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence in honor of martyrs. Gabriel Chamoun, speaking on behalf of the Syriac Union Party, and Sobhi Malki, the Co-Chair of the Progressive Syriac Youth Union, both reflected on the life and legacy of Saeed Malke. They highlighted his tireless efforts to advocate for the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and secure their legitimate demands.

In a statement to Suroyo TV, Chamoun emphasized that this event serves as a continued demand for the disclosure of Malke’s fate. He underscored that the arrest of Malke was an attempt by the regime to crush the revolutionary spirit and dismantle his ideas, yet their institutions remain steadfast in upholding his vision and principles. Chamoun called on the international community to pressure the Syrian regime to reveal Malke’s whereabouts.

Sobhi Malki also paid tribute to Saeed Malke, noting his significant contributions to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) struggle in Syria and the revolutionary ideals shared by his comrades. He criticized the Syrian regime, attributing the ongoing Syrian crisis to its oppressive practices and denial of fundamental rights and freedoms.
